What Is An Eyelash Curler?

An eyelash curler review to help you choose the best eyelash curler for your needs.

An eyelash curler is an implement designed to curl eyelashes. The term curl in this instance does not mean curl in the normal sense, rather it means to bend the eyelashes so that they appear more open, and the eye appears brighter and wider.

Eyelash curlers are not a new phenomenon, however it is only recently that people have come to understand just what an impact they can have on the way that eyes look.

Effects that could previously only be achieved through the use of false eyelashes can now be created with an eyelash curler. This avoids the fiddly mess that is false eyelashes and replaces it with something that takes no more than a couple of minutes to do.

Not only is it quicker and cleaner, it also causes the eyelashes less damage than using false eyelashes.

If you want long gorgeous lashes read on to find out how an eyelash curler might change the look of your eyes!

What Does An Eyelash Curler Look Like?

As shown in the image to the right, an eyelash curler is a strange looking contraption. There are many , many different kinds available. It can be bought in either a metal or plastic version, although most make up artists suggest the metal version as being more effective.

The metal part of the eyelash curler forms one piece, attached to which are a small pads that cushion your eyelashes from the metal and help to stop you pinching your eyelids. These small rubber pads are removable and can be regularly replaced to keep your eyelash curler working properly and free from germs.

There are also heated eyelash curlers available that warm up prior to use to help you to get a better result. .

How To Use An Eyelash Curler.

  1. Make sure that your eyelashes are scrupulously clean. You should NOT curl your eyelashes when you are wearing mascara as it can make your eyelashes stick to the eyelash curler and pull them out. Curl your eyelashes first and then add mascara for a truly gorgeous effect!
  2. Either turn your heated eyelash curler on so that it is at the right temperature or warm your metal curler under a hairdryer set to low heat. It should NOT be hot, just warm, otherwise you will burn your eyelids.
  3. Open the eyelash curler as wide as it will go. Place the eyelashes through the curler and gently close the curler so that it clamps the lashes near the base of the lashes. Be VERY careful not to trap your eyelid in the curler as this hurts!.
  4. Hold your lashes clamped for a few seconds and then gently release them so as not to put any stress on the lashes. Move the curler down the lashes to around halfway down and curl again.
  5. Marvel at the new doe eyed you! You're gorgeous!

Metal Eyelash Curlers

Many make up artists swear by metal eyelash curlers and these tend to be what they have in their make up kits. Professionals like the control that these give you as you can decide how warm or cool to make them. The other reason that make up artists like them is that they are very portable. This makes them great for holidays or trips where you want to just pop them in your make up bag and go.

One advantage of metal over heated eyelash curlers is that they can also be used on false lashes. This means that if after applying your falsies you want a little more oomph you can use your eyelash curler to open your eyes up...

Plastic Eyelash Curlers

Plastic eyelash curlers are generally a little gentler on the eyelashes then metal eyelash curlers and somehow look less terrifying too! However, they do not get such good results as metal curlers for this reason. Many people prefer them though as they look less painful to use.

Heated Eyelash Curlers

Heated eyelash curlers work better than non heated curlers. However, you do have to wait for them to reach the desired temperature before you can use them. If you want dramatic, wow inducing, gorgeous eyelashes though a heated eyelash curler is what you need. Slightly more expensive than traditional eyelash curlers you do get more bang for your buck.

Where To Buy Eyelash Curlers

There are a wide range of eyelash curlers available. In my experience working with make up artists they have universally preferred a simple metal eyelash curler. However, there are many different eyelash curlers on the market and everybody's preference will be different.

If you wish to purchase an eyelash curler they are available through Amazon.com through the links on this page. Please click on any link to buy, or to explore other eyelash curler options.
